This past week UIL competitors traveled down to the university of Texas A&M Corpus Christi to compete in the regional UIL meet. Out of the total 21 competitors representing Devine, five are headed to the state meet.
The social studies team consisting of senior Michael Hernandez, junior Lane Peery, junior Michael Chavez and sophomore Travis Woods won their event as a team. With the win the team clinched themselves a spot in the state meet.
“Seeing all of our hard work finally payoff, and qualifying for state meet is such an amazing honor.” Travis said.
Individually Lane Peery led his team with a fifth place in social studies.
“Placing fifth was a great experience, but now its time to get ready to try and place at the state meet.” Lane said.
Junior Kyle Saathoff also qualified for the state meet. He will be an alternate in Biology.
“I would of liked to qualify completely instead of as an alternate, but I’m still honored to be able to go.” Kyle said.
These individuals will be competing in the state meet held at the University of Texas at Austin May 20-22.
