Work hard, play hard

Band prepares for competition, concerts

March 4, 2015

Preparation is key when it comes to music, and the Warhorse concert band has been doing just that in order  do well in their competitions. The band received a score of I, II, and II at their most recent competition, which took place on Feb. 20.

“I felt pretty good about receiving those scores but there’s room for improvement,” senior Travis Woods said.

According to the judges, I’s and II’s are better known as top scores. Every band’s goal is to get straight I’s, and the Warhorse band is almost there. Their next competition, Concert and Sight-reading, will be held on March 4 at Pleasanton High School.

“We are pretty close to where we need to be,” senior Catherine Duncan said. “We are polishing and cleaning up a few spots but other than that we are very close.”

While the band works hard to excel in competition, they also make a little time to play too. On March 20-22, the band will take a trip to Dallas and perform a concert in the Lonestar Theater.

“The trip to Dallas is going to be an awesome opportunity to not only perform in an incredible venue but also a chance to bond as a group,” Duncan said.
