OAP warms up in competition
March 4, 2015
One Act Play performed their production, Fuddy Meers, on Sat., Feb. 28 at Wimberley High School. The tournament was designed to give to cast and crew feedback on the show.
“The company needed to perform in front of an audience for two major reasons,” director Desiree Chappelle said. “One was to gauge how well the audience and judges can follow the story and to boost their moral.”
Three other schools attended the tournament and put on their company’s performance. These included: Lytle, East Central, and Southwest H.S. The casts were judged on their overall performance and were given feedback at the end of the tournament.
“I think it was good to have an audience and hear critiques from another seasoned director,” senior Catherine Duncan said.
After all the schools performed their productions, some cast members were awarded. The importance of putting on the production wasn’t to receive anything but constructive criticism from the judges.
The following were awarded All-Star cast: Catherine Duncan as Clair and Mason Honig as Millet/Binky. Honorable Mention All-Star cast was awarded to James Pedroza as Limping Man and Joni Hill as Gertie.
“I was surprised and honored to be awarded All-Star Cast,” Duncan said. “We have an incredible cast and are headed toward great things.”
The cast is now preparing for their district competition, which will be held on March 25-26.
“These kids have a funny show on their hands,” Chappelle said. “If I can direct them to tweak the minor imperfections that the Wimberley judges pointed out, we will be a force to be reckoned with at district.”
