Competition heats up for UIL students

DSC_0001Attending multiple UIL practice meets is just one of the many things the UIL students are doing in order to prepare themselves for the upcoming district meet in the spring. The competitors attended a meet last Saturday, Dec. 6, in Bandera.

“I think we have been doing really good so far,” sophomore Tristan Woods said. “The closer we get to district, the better we will get.”

The UIL students have been practicing hard to prove that they have what it takes to beat out their district competitors. These district competitors include the recently added schools: Bandera, Fredericksburg, and Boerne. With new competition, the Devine UIL competitors are going to have to work harder than ever before.

“Most people in UIL practice 3 or more times a week in order to prepare themselves for the upcoming practice meets and district meet,” sophomore Brooklyn Anderson.

Many UIL kids agree that although competing may not be an easy task, it can be very rewarding.

“The best part about competing is doing good for our school,” Anderson said. “I love to represent our school in an academic way, because it really makes our school look great.”

The Devine UIL competitors will continue to practice and improve so they can be at their best for the district meet in the spring. The next practice meet the students will be competing in is on January 17.

“I think if we continue to work hard, we will do great things in the upcoming district meet,” Woods said. “I can’t wait to see all of our hard work finally paying off.”
