Devine FFA has been reaching new heights with several major accomplishments. For the first time in over a decade, the Devine FFA chapter will be representing with their very own Kyle Saathoff as the Area VII president elect. Holding this position in office is a great honor, and is making history for the Devine chapter and the Revaldina district. Along with that, the chapter also has two state qualifiers who will be representing Devine in competition this summer.
“Going into this year, I would have never thought that I’d run for area office,” Saathoff said. “However, over the past few months, I’ve really become more and more involved with the FFA. Ms. Schroedter has really enabled me to succeed not only on my teams, but also with my route to becoming Area VII president.”
Saathoff was the Devine chapter Historian this past year, and will be upholding the Sentinel position for the chapter this year as well. Being the Area president, Kyle will be presiding over seven districts, which amounts to over 100 school chapters.
“It is a great opportunity and honor to have a member from the Devine chapter hold this position,” Ms. Schroedter said. “I’m am very proud of Kyle and his achievements.”
Another big step for Devine is the chapter’s state qualifiers that will be competing in the summer. Junior Daniel Morales qualified for state for Star Lonestar placement. Morales was chosen to compete at state due to his work at Morales Feed Store, meticulous record keeping and his employment in agriculture. Morales made the top 10 in the state who displayed these qualities, and will compete at state on June 14. Results will be revealed at State convention later in the summer.
“This particular contest was new to me this year,” Morales said. “I went in kind of clueless, but with unbelievable guidance from Ms. Schroedter I was able to have much success in area with a first place finish. I am really looking forward to seeing how the state competition will play out.”
Also competing at state this summer is senior Cesar Garza. Garza took second place at area in the extemporaneous speaking event and will be advancing to state. In this competition, Garza is given 30 minutes to create a four minute speech on a agriculture related subject.
“I have been working really hard on my event, and with some outstanding guidance from my Mr. Saunders and Ms. Schroedter, I hope to compete well at state,” Garza said.
