The DHS Football Podcast is back with a brand-new twist. This season, our student-athlete hosts aren’t just covering life under the lights of Warhorse Stadium—they’re diving into the NFL. With spirited debates, predictions, and plenty of personality, the team offers a high school perspective on professional football that’s as entertaining as it is insightful.
Eli: What’s up, DHS? It’s Eli.
Cole: Cole.
Eli: Oh. Uh, today we’re going to talk about the NFL.
So, on Saturday, August 16th, the Baltimore Ravens and the Dallas Cowboys played, with the Ravens taking the win 31–13. The Ravens had pretty good stats, with Cooper Rush returning to his old team and having 198 passing yards, and Cowboys QB Joe Milton having 122.
Cole: How do you feel about that topic?
Eli: Go Cowboys. You know, I love the Cowboys. They’re going to win the Super Bowl.
Uh, the Cowboys had Miles Sanders with their most rushing yards—having only 15. So, not a dominant game on the ground for the Cowboys.
Cole: You know who else dominated? The Commanders on the ground.
The Commanders started on the ground with a three-play, 74-yard drive touchdown from Jayden Daniels. And then the Bengals put together a nice one-yard touchdown on fourth and goal to tie the game up.
That’s it. Place before yourself.
The Commanders then scored another touchdown on the ground, a 27-yard rushing touchdown. After that, they didn’t do much for the rest of the game. They took their starters out. The second team came in, the offense really slowed down.
But then the Bengals took over the passing attack led by Jake Browning to Mitchell Tinsley. They connected for two passing touchdowns, and the Commanders had a field goal and an interception.
The Bengals dominated when the second team went in. They really took over the game. Defense got two interceptions in the first half. They really slowed down the Commanders’ passing game.
And the Bengals ended with 206 passing yards and the Commanders with 185 rushing yards. So, they really took over.
Some games to watch from Eli — with some games to watch for this week.
Some games to watch for this week: Texans and Lions played yesterday. That was a pretty good game to watch.
Cole: Oh, Cole, I have— I have a question. What is that thing you’re playing with? Can you please stop trying to run? I’m really wondering.
Eli: I got a question, man. Eli can’t stop laughing, dude. Just end it.
Cole: No, just don’t.
Eli: All right. Um, anyways. Uh, Ryd, who do you think the NFL rivals are this year?
Ryd: You know, honestly, any team the Cowboys play because they’re just going to dominate this whole entire year.
Eli: You can tell this guy’s never watched a down of football before.
Ryd: Nah, it’s just— I believe that this is our season.
Eli: You don’t know who the Cowboys’ rival is?
Ryd: No, I’m t— I’m not— I’m not really Ty Sadler, but actually, isn’t it the Commanders? The Eagles? Blue and red, you know?
Eli: Sorry, I don’t watch NFL. I watch college football.
So, another game to look forward to is the NFL kickoff, which is the Cowboys versus the Eagles. Who do you think is going to win that game?
Ryd: Oh, obviously the Cowboys.
Eli: And uh, do you have a score prediction for that?
Ryd: 67 to zero.
Eli: Okay. And uh, who do you think’s going to go to the Super Bowl this year?
Ryd: Come on now. It’s the Cowboys.
Eli: All right. And uh, another game to look out for is the Chiefs versus Chargers. How do you feel about that?
Ryd: I think, uh, the Chiefs are going to win that one. Um, the Chargers are—
Eli: And uh, the Chiefs also lost to the Bears the other day.
Ryd: Well, preseason don’t matter. You know, my personal opinion.
Eli: What was the score? Like 38 to zero or something?
Ryd: Uh, that was the week before — the Bills and the Bears. But the other day, uh, the Chiefs played with the Bears, and the Bears scored with like 7 seconds left — won 29 to 27.
Eli: Yeah, that Chiefs started pretty bad. They fell off after they got dominated in the Super Bowl.
Ryd: Yeah, I agree.
Eli: But that’s all from us here at DHS. Thank you, Ty Sadler, for coming on the show. See you next time.
Cole: Appreciate it.
Ryd: Thanks, Ty.
